The Eagles improved to 6-2-1 overall and evened their conference record at 1-1. The Eagles are in the thick of their conference play; five of their six remaining games are against conference opponents.
Eastern jumped to a 1-0 lead 2:35 into the match with Mitch Osterhouse scuffling for a ball inside the 18 and placing it past Manhattanville goalie Steve Singson.
The Eagles doubled their lead in the eighth minute when Benjamin Barnhart one-touched a ball to Brandon Beaumont who scorched the 15-yard shot into the far left corner.
After 60 minutes of scoreless play, Eastern upped its lead to 3-0. Freshman Zach Johnson scored his second career goal, jumping in front of the net to tap in a long cross by Josh Cirocco from the left wing.
Cirocco found Johnson on a similar play in the 72nd minute that was originally awarded a goal for Johnson. After further review, the ball glanced off a Manhattanville defender's foot and into the net for an own goal.
Eastern capped its scoring in the 84th minute when John Remsberg boomed a ball from the defensive third towards Manhattanville's goal. Freshman Jonathan Nazon tracked the ball down, slid beneath the goalie who was off his line, and popped back up to put the ball into the net. Nazon's goal was his first collegiate goal.
Eastern assistant coach Dan Visser noted that the Eagles' midfield of Mitch Osterhouse, Austin Stover, and Benjamin Barnhart controlled the ball effectively and set the tone early.
Eastern continues conference play on Tuesday at Misericordia at 7 p.m.
Notes: Eastern earned its fifth shutout of the season. Starting goalkeeper Kyle Nichols made two save in 75 minutes. Nick Policastro played the final 15 minutes in goal. Goalie Matt Lieg played as a forward for the final 11 minutes of the game.
