ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern Men's Soccer scored early and often in their
season-opener against the Penn St.-Brandywine Lions.
The Eagles scored five first-half goals en route to an 8-0 win. Eric
Giovagnoli displayed his speed while scoring eight points, netting a hat trick
and dishing two assists.
Brandon Beaumont found the goal first in the seventh minute, assisted by
Giovagnoli. Giovagnoli then found Hunter Rosenberg near the far post for a tally
in the 13th minute.
Giovanoli scored three minutes later, and Josh Cirocco and Jonathan Nazon
each scored to round out the first half. Cirocco finished the day with a goal
and two assists.
Midfielder Jair Saenz bent a ball over PSU's wall on a free kick in the 51st
minute to put Eastern up 6-0 and Giovagnoli added two more goals, including one
on a penalty kick.
Freshmen Jamie Stratton and Joe Centeno split time in goal for the Eagles.
Each recorded one save.
Eastern outshot the Lions 27-2.
The Eagles will co-host with Cabrini College the Eagle Road Classic on Friday
and Saturday, Sept. 6 and 7. Two teams will arrive to play Eastern one day and
Cabrini the other. Eastern hosts Alvernia on Friday and Lebanon Valley on
Saturday.
