The Eagles limited the Wolverines to five shots the entire game, only two of which were on goal. The Eagles, on the other hand, took 17 shots, 10 on goal.
Eastern goalie Kyle Nichols recorded his second straight shutout in the win.
The Eagles scored in the seventh minute when Wesley's goalie Mark Mattern came off the line to play a loose ball near the left post. Eastern's Brandon Reichart dished the loose ball to freshman Ben Hriscu who finished his first collegiate goal right in front of the net.
The Eagles added an insurance goal in the 81st minute when Mitch Osterhouse slipped past his defender on the right wing and made a sliding cross across the endline to Dan Shields in front of the net. Shields fired a shot that was saved by Mattern, but bounced back right to Shields who trapped it and finished it with his left foot.
Eagles' coach Mark Wagner praised the depth of his team, saying that the team still felt fresh after back-to-back game days. Wagner specifically noted the play of Sean Bonner and Jair Saenz on Saturday. Wagner said Bonner continued to improve as the tournament progressed and that Saenz proved he could be a leader in the back.
Bonner and Saenz made the all-tournament team as did Eric Giovagnoli and James Le. Cabrini's George Lambritisios, Sean Neary, Eric Nowicki, NYU-Poly's Allen Rohr, Gursimran Toor, and Wesley's Pat Slinka and Sheldon Blue rounded out the tournament team.Eastern plays at No. 24 Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Wagner said that the Eagles will need to work on improving their one-on-one defending before that game.
